2027–2028 FAFSA Is Now Open!

2027–2028 FAFSA Is Now Open!

Seniors, it’s time to take an important step toward planning for life after high school!

The 2027–2028 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) is officially open. Students planning to attend college, a university, community college, career school, or trade school during the 2027–2028 school year are encouraged to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible.

Why Complete the FAFSA?

The FAFSA is used to determine eligibility for several types of financial aid, including:

  • Federal grants, including the Pell Grant
  • Work-study opportunities
  • Federal student loans
  • State financial aid
  • Financial aid offered by colleges and universities

Completing the FAFSA is free, and students should submit the form even if they are unsure whether they will qualify for financial aid.

Before You Begin

Students will need a StudentAid.gov account to complete the FAFSA. Parents or other required contributors will also need their own StudentAid.gov accounts.

It is helpful to have information such as tax records, current asset information, and a list of colleges or career schools the student is considering available before beginning the application.

Don’t Wait!

Although the federal FAFSA deadline is later, colleges, universities, and state financial aid programs may have earlier priority deadlines and limited funds. Completing the FAFSA early can help students avoid missing important financial aid opportunities.
